CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

Purpose: To teach professional rescuers (those with a duty to act and provide care) the skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies, including the use of an automated external defibrillator for victims of sudden cardiac arrest.

Prerequisites: None

Learning Objectives:

Learn the role of the professional rescuer in the EMS system;

Understand how the Emergency Action Principles when providing emergency care for a victim;

Learn how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies; and

Learn how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Length: Approximately 7 hours, 50 minutes

Certification Requirements:

Attend and participate in all course sessions;

Demonstrate competency in all required skills listed on the skills checklist;

Participate in all skills sessions; and

Pass the final exam with a score of 80 percent or better on each section.

Certificate Issued and Validity Period: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer – 1 year
