Both active
duty and community-based military can count on the Red
Cross to provide emergency communications that link them
with their families back home, access to financial
assistance from the military aid societies, counseling,
referral to community resources and assistance to
veterans.
|
|
|
|
The American Red Cross links members of the U.S. Armed
Forces with their families during a crisis. Twenty-four
hours a day, 365 days a year, the Red Cross quickly sends
emergency communications to deployed service members on
behalf of their family. Military members can have peace of
mind knowing that when they are on a mission, in training
or stationed far from home––and leaving cell phones and
e-mails behind––they are still connected to home. If you
need assistance with an emergency message or loan, call
the number listed below. |

Tips for Sending An Emergency Message: |
|
|
A
Caseworker is always on call – you can contact the service member in your family by calling the
nearest chapter of the American Red Cross any time of the day or
night, 24/7. |
|
|
Messages
regarding births, deaths and serious illness will always go
through. |
|
|
Immediate Family Members consist of:
Husband, Wife, Father, Mother,
Brother, Sister, Son, Daughter, Grandmother, Grandfather, Only
Living Relative, Loco-Parentis (A person who stood in place of a
parent to the Service Member 24 hours a day for a period of at
least 5 years before the service member became 21 or entered the
military). Aunts, Uncles and Cousins will not go through unless
they are an Only Living Relative or a Loco-Parentis. |
|
|
The
case worker must verify
all information regarding medical
conditions, death or domestic issues with a doctor, funeral home
or applicable agency. Because we verify the truth and accuracy of
all messages with the proper authorities, Commanders regard Red
Cross messages as credible in deciding whether to grant emergency
leave or extend emergency leave. |
|
|
During minimize conditions, emergency messages regarding
domestic issues and money are handled on a case-by-case basis. |
|
|
Messages may take as little as an hour to be processed and
delivered, or as much as 48 hours if the recipient is in a remote
or deployed position. |
|
| Your
message will be processed more quickly if you know the
following about the service member you want to reach: |
| First Name, Last
Name, Middle Initial |
|
Social Security Number |
| Service Member's Birthdate |
| Rank |
| Branch of Service |
|
Name of Military Unit and Military Base |
| Location Where Stationed
(City, State, Country or Ship) |
|
|
|
To
transmit an emergency message, call (800) 696-3873. |

Tips for Requesting An Emergency Loan: |
|
The
Red Cross collaborates with the military aid societies in
providing financial assistance when an urgent personal or family
crisis arises. A Red Cross Caseworker will help military
personnel process the application to obtain an emergency loan. |
|
|
When
military personnel or their family members might need: |
Financial
assistance for emergency travel |
Financial
assistance for the burial of a loved one |
Urgent
health and welfare such as food and shelter |
|
|
A
Red Cross Caseworker will be available to help you meet
those needs and help process the loan application. |
